Manchester City’s punishment has been announced if found guilty of breaking financial rules

Former Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves believes that if Manchester City is found guilty of breaking financial restrictions, they should be relegated from the Premier League.

It has been a year after City was accused of breaking 115 financial fair play regulations between 2009 and 2018. The club denies every charge.

With Everton losing 10 points, the case for City has regained traction. The Toffees are waiting for the outcome of their appeal against the sentence. Additional charges have been filed against them and Nottingham Forest.

Given Everton’s heavy punishment, City should be demoted if found guilty—possibly by many tiers. Shreeves has expressed his opinion on the matter.

Speaking with Lucky Block, he stated: “The Everton and Manchester City allegations are completely different. You can’t directly compare the two, and Everton communicated with the Premier League throughout the process.

“I expect Manchester City will go to court, but not for at least two years. It is a long, long distance down the road. I don’t see the Premier League having any other option [but to relegate City if proven guilty].

“They’ve created a precedent for Everton with those point deductions. They largely advocated for a 12 point deduction. So it must be possible.

Guardiola has indicated that if City were relegated to League One, a tier it has not played in since 1998-1999, he will stay with the club.

Many Premier League teams, including pundit Gary Neville, have called for the league to expedite City’s appeal so that other clubs can gain clarification on the problem.
