Manchester City have narrowed the margin at the top of the Premier League table to just two points after defeating Brentford tonight.
City maintained their excellent run in 2024, winning five out of five in all competitions.
Phil Foden stole the show Thursday evening, scoring three goals at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Bees really took the lead in the game, with Neal Maupay scoring after some sloppy defending by City. Mark Flekken’s goal kick found the striker, who clutched onto the ball and slotted it past Ederson.
But shortly before halftime, Foden levelled for City, before putting on the style in the second half.

MORE MAN CITY STORIES
Following the equaliser, Foden scored early in the second half with a looping header from a beautiful Kevin De Bruyne cross.
Foden’s third goal came after a wonderful little lay-off from Erling Haaland, and the 24-year-old finished clinically into the bottom corner.
Foden once again thrived in a prominent role, scoring 14 goals in all competitions this season.
He was voted Man of the Match by Sky commentator Alan Smith, who said of the star: “A lot of City players have been excellent, but when you score a hat-trick, you really have to get the award.” Phil Foden is having a spectacular season with a fantastic team.”
Foden excels again.
Again, Foden, who Pep Guardiola recently indicated had become more of a matchwinner for City, was the star of the show for Manchester City.
The midfielder was just excellent operating between the lines in the middle, and he continued to flourish despite Kevin De Bruyne and Julen Alvarez operating in similar places.
He’s becoming into a significant player, as many expected.
It’s nice to see Foden getting more potent as well; he just needs one more goal this season to match his tally from last season, and two more to reach the 16 he earned in the 2020/21 season.
