Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino blamed his team’s poor away form on ‘attitude and character’ after losing 4-1 to Liverpool on Wednesday.
The Blues have suffered defeat in five of their previous six Premier League away games, which is a worrying figure for the Argentine manager.
Pochettino was asked to explain Chelsea’s road troubles in his post-match press conference following their comfortable defeat at Anfield.
‘I think it’s part of our mentality and character,’ the 51-year-old explained. ‘We need to be more confidence in ourselves.
‘Now we’re improving at home. Last season, this was a major issue. We now need to feel more confident away from home.
‘It’s about confidence and trust. We must be able to function equally well away from home. It’s a matter of time.
Pochettino has also warned his players that if they do not improve, the Carabao Cup final next month at Wembley will be the’same result’ as before.
‘For sure, it will be different in a neutral environment,’ Pochettino continued.
“Of sure, that is the emotion. It is fantastic because we want to compete. And if we compete in the same way we do now, the results will be the same.
‘If we don’t improve, it will be difficult. For us, it is about learning in this type of game. We were competing against a top-ranked squad. It’s wonderful to feel like we need to improve.
