Referee Paul Tierney issued a booking to the home custodian for his protestations after he and his teammates claimed Ruben Dias had fouled them in the build-up to the goal.
Replays revealed that even though Vicario made it to the corner to punch it, Dias leaped next to him, throwing him off balance, and Ake was able to reach a lost ball to score the game-winning goal.
Some supporters are upset at the decision, which is murky given that a goal was disallowed earlier in the season when Manuel Akanji and Alisson Becker collided during City’s November draw with Liverpool.
That is unquestionably a foul against Vicario, a user on X—previously Twitter—commented. “There’s no way he misses that if Dias isn’t keeping him from seeing it.”

Meanwhile, the retailer of eyeglasses, Specsavers, made a joke, saying, “VAR has #TheTraitors on their screens and not the game.”
After the game, Ake said that he hadn’t witnessed the action up close and had only been looking at the ball, so he wasn’t sure if the goal should have been disallowed.
He stated, “I’m not sure what happened to be fair,” in an interview with ITV. I have no idea what happened; I just saw the ball in front of me and inserted it. I would need to view it again.
“We are overjoyed.” Very joyful. Though difficult, I believe we performed admirably throughout the entire match. Thus, yes, we merely needed to score because it wouldn’t occur again for a while. I therefore wondered, will it really happen? Fortunately, though, we were able to get it in.
Ange Postecolglou, the manager of Tottenham, didn’t contest the ruling, though.
“I think the decision was made and we have to accept it,” stated the irate Australian. They were the worst team, yet they are a formidable foe who causes you pain.
