Jurgen Klopp announced on Sunday that Salah will return to the UK for treatment, but stressed that the striker would be able to play again at AFCON provided he recovered and Egypt remained in the competition.
However, Salah’s agent has practically ruled him out of the rest of the AFCON, claiming that the Liverpool attacker will be sidelined for ’21-28 days’.
Salah’s representative, Ramy Abbas, tweeted on X on Monday evening: ‘Mohammed’s injury is more serious than first imagined, and he will be sidelined for 21-28 days rather than two games.
‘His best chance of participation in the current AFCON is to undertake extensive rehabilitation in the UK and then rejoin the team as soon as he is healthy.’

Following Liverpool’s 4-0 victory against Bournemouth on Sunday, Klopp initially stated that Salah will return to the club for rehab.
“That’s the plan; if that’s already decided 100 percent, I’m not sure, but that’s the plan.” Klopp said:
‘However long he’s out, I believe, and I’m sure everyone sees this, it makes sense that he rehabs with us or our staff; that’s the idea. I’m not sure if that is already written in stone.
When asked if he had spoken with Salah, Klopp replied: “Yes, immediately after, but since the night it happened, he’s been in contact with our doctor, and the doctor has told me the news.” I think he’ll be back.
When asked if Salah would be permitted to return to the Africa Cup of Nations if Egypt advanced in the competition, Klopp said: ‘I’m not a doctor, but if he’s fit before, if Egypt qualify for the final and he’s fit before the final, definitely yeah. Why not? It is obvious that this is the tournament.
