A financial specialist has claimed that Manchester City will be relegated from the Premier League if they are found guilty of the 115 Financial Fair Play allegations. The Citizens’ hearing date has yet to be publicly set, despite rising external pressure on the powers that be to move the case City forward.
Everton and Nottingham Forest were both penalised earlier this week with failing to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with the former already losing 10 points this season. This has gotten everyone talking about the several charges hanging over Manchester City’s head.
Each case is unique, yet establishing 115 charges will almost certainly take significantly longer than proving far fewer charges. Man City has become one of the most powerful forces in world football over the last decade, with Pep Guardiola’s side reaching the top of the sport by winning the most coveted triple available to them in the 2022/23 season (the FA Cup, Premier League, and Champions League).

Speaking to talkSport, financial advisor Stefan Borson provided light on what to expect if the team is found guilty. Borson stated that this issue is “on a completely different level [to Everton and Nottingham Forest].”
There is no doubt that if these charges are proven, they will result in at least relegation. There is a suspicion of a ten-year conspiracy.
If the Citizens are connected to the top division, it will be intriguing to observe what happens to the club’s manager and players. Borson emphasised the gravity of the matter, saying, “If proven, this is extremely serious.” Nobody would disagree with it. City will say, I assure you, that this is a serious charge.”
There has clearly been a crackdown on teams that have violated Financial Fair Play standards, with Manchester City being the most serious example to date. The Premier League’s Chief Executive, Richard Masters, stated that a date has been set for City’s hearing but did not specify when.
Borson went on to say: “There are strict confidentiality clauses within the Premier League rules, so I assume that is what he had in mind when he said he can’t comment when it is.”

While the players and Guardiola have no control over what happens off the pitch, there is still work to be done on the pitch. City are still in contention to retain all three titles won in the previous season, having advanced to the Champions League knockout rounds and the FA Cup fourth round.
The Premier League title race is extremely intense, with only five points separating the top five teams in the competition. Guardiola guided his team to the Club World Cup in December and would have been delighted that their opponents all dropped points while the winners were abroad.
