Manchester City has confirmed the Signing of River Plate Midfielder for a shocking transfer fee of £100M

Claudio Echeverri will spend a year on loan at River Plate after joining Manchester City, the Argentine club said.

City are poised to sign the 18-year-old this month from the same club that Julian Alvarez signed two years ago. In that deal, City paid £14 million for Alvarez in January 2022 and enabled him to return to River Plate on loan for six months until the start of City’s 2022/23 preseason.

River Plate said this week that Echeverri, who is younger than Alvarez when he joined for City, will stay with them for a year – until January 2025.

Speaking to SportCenter (via ESPN Deportes), sporting director Enzo Francescoli confirmed the transfer and that Echeverri will stay at River for a year as part of the deal.

“He is very calm,” Francescoli added, “and I see him the same way I did last year.” Obviously, he must have internal issues. But he deserves it; he’s a wonderful young man. He is doing well, with his feet on the ground, despite what occurs to him at the age of 18, which is a lot. I chatted with him a few days ago. He’s doing fine, he’s relaxed.”

Responding to River fans’ disappointment that the club did not extend Echeverri’s contract, the director addressed the concerns while admitting that his team was essentially helpless to maintain the midfielder owing to the economic realities of South American sport.

People become impatient when they don’t understand how things work. “There is no longer an ideal world as it has always been imagined,” he stated. “You have to deal with globalisation on a daily basis.” In football, the same thing happens.
