Joao Cancelo suffers a knee injury as a result of a challenge with another Manchester City loanee, Maximo Perrone.
On their official website, Barcelona reported that the 29-year-old had injured the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

As Barcelona faced Las Palmas in La Liga, the two Manchester City loanees squared off.
Xavi’s side won 2-1 at the Estadio Gran Canaria due to goals from Ferran Torres and Ilkay Gundogan in a game heavily influenced by Manchester City.
Unfortunately, Cancelo only lasted 11 minutes before being forced off the pitch by a “very hard clash” with Perrone, as detailed by Spanish news agency SPORT.
When Barcelona announced the injury on their official website, they did not provide a timetable for the Manchester City loanee’s comeback.
However, it does not sound promising.
The injury to Joao Cancelo may have an impact on Manchester City’s sale.
Prior to his injury, the Barreiro-born defender appeared to be on his way to a permanent move to Barcelona.
Cancelo has thrived in Spain, scoring three goals and assisting twice in 22 games under Xavi.
According to the aforementioned SPORT, Barcelona has already agreed to sign the Portugal international on a permanent basis, despite some reservations about Manchester City’s €30 million (£26 million) asking price.
It was also suggested that Barcelona No. 3 Alejandro Balde may be used in a trade deal.
However, if Cancelo’s injury is significant and keeps him out for the rest of the 2023/24 season, Barcelona will undoubtedly be hesitant to invest their limited finances on him, especially since he turns 30 in May.
