Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that his starting XI will be rotated more as Chelsea attempts to climb the Premier League rankings.
The Argentine made four changes from the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, with Christopher Nkunku falling to the bench against Luton Town.
Benoit Badiashile missed the trip to Kenilworth Road owing to a slight injury, and Ian Maatsen and Mykhailo Mudryk were also left out of the starting XI.
Meanwhile, Cole Palmer, who was suspended for the home win over Palace, was returned to the starting XI on Saturday, along with Noni Madueke and Armando Broja.
When asked why he was reshuffling his squad ahead of kickoff, Pochetino told TNT Sport: “I think it’s to manage the form of the player.”
“Thiago [Silva] is an experienced player who can always help, but especially in this type of game.”
“During a busy period, we need to give all of the players opportunities because we need to add new players to the team.”
“We’re always thinking in the present and trying to win the game; I believe this combination will help us compete.”
“I believe that given the circumstances, all of the players need to believe that they can contribute, whether starting or coming off the bench.”
“For sure, we are ready, you are going to see in the next few games, many, many changes.”
Pochettino’s alterations did, to some extent, work because Madueke and Palmer were Chelsea’s match winners against Luton, scoring all three goals at Kenilworth Road.
