Manchester City’s left winger Galatasaray is interested in loaning out Sergio Gomez.
The Turkish giants want to end Manchester City full-back Angelino’s loan early by returning him to RB Leipzig next month. Galatasaray paid Leipzig a loan fee of about £1 million, with the transfer becoming permanent for £5 million if Angelino makes 20 appearances across all competitions.
Despite appearing in all six of Galatasaray’s Champions League matches, he has now been kept out of the picture in Istanbul after reaching 19 appearances.
If Galatasaray and the Bundesliga club can reach a deal, Angelino’s compatriot Gomez is seen as an adequate alternative, albeit he is not the only target of interest.
Galatasaray are considering an initial 18-month loan offer with a permanent transfer option. Gomez has only started three games for City this season in all competitions and has not played in the Premier League since September.
He joined Pep Guardiola’s treble-winners in August 2022 for £11 million from Anderlecht, but has battled to break into City’s starting XI. This season, Guardiola has frequently used a back-three, with Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake also appearing at left-back ahead of the 23-year-old Spaniard.
Meanwhile, following his eye-catching debut at the Etihad Stadium, City are prepared to reject any further loan attempts for Norwegian prodigy Oscar Bobb this winter.
Lazio, Porto, Benfica, and Ajax were all interested in loaning the 20-year-old forward in the summer, but he has rapidly forced his way into City’s first-team picture.
Kalvin Phillips is one player who could go in January after failing to impress Guardiola following his £42 million signing from Leeds in 2022. Juventus has stated that they would seek to sign the England international on loan with a purchase option.
City, on the other hand, wants to unload Phillips on a permanent basis and is insisting on an obligation to buy, which Juventus has yet to commit to. Talks between the two teams are still ongoing.
Newcastle is also being mentioned as a possible destination for Phillips as he seeks regular minutes ahead of the European Championships next summer.
Guardiola recently stated that if Phillips does leave City, City may look to replace him in the market, saying, “Kalvin is a player with us, I don’t want to anticipate absolutely anything.” Everyone is aware of his predicament. It is dependent on whether or not it occurs. If this occurs, we will discuss it. The market in January is difficult. We still have fantastic things to play for after we make our decision.”
