Madueke joined the Blues from PSV Eindhoven in January, a transfer that was mostly orchestrated by Pochettino’s predecessor Graham Potter.

However, the winger has only made eight appearances in all competitions this season, including one start in the Premier League.

However, with fierce competition for offensive positions, Pochettino believes Madueke has yet to shown enough to deserve a place in his squad.

‘I suppose he was involved and not involved from the start of the season, he was injured and had some problems,’ Pochettino said at a press conference on Friday.

‘It’s something we always expect with the guys and the competition.

Noni is in a position of extreme competition because there are just too many players in that field. I believe he needs to improve and raise his level.

‘He got hurt and is healing maybe he will be involved int he future games.’

With the exception of this month’s trip to Manchester United, where he served a suspension, the England international has started every Premier League encounter this season. Pochettino recognises that the final decision will be made by the board.

‘In terms of the future, it is up to the club and the player to decide what they want to do. In my past experience at other teams, I tried to provide the club my best opinion and advise.’ Pochettino explained.

‘I’m a manager who enjoys collaborating with the sporting director and owners. It’s all about talking and debating before making the greatest option for the group.

‘It’s always, and I repeat, from previous experience, about the club and the player and what they decide to do.’
