Chelsea risked Mauricio Pochettino’s anger after a report stated a regular starter he completely trusts had been put up for sale.
Another dreadful season at Stamford Bridge, with results failing to meet the club’s ambitions off the pitch.
The Blues spent substantially again during the summer window, bringing in Axel Disasi, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, and Nicolas Jackson.
Palmer in particular has impressed, and neither Lavia nor Nkunku can be blamed for their absences due to injury.
However, the remainder of Chelsea’s signings have mostly underperformed, and the club is already 12 points below fourth place.
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea intends to open the chequebook again next month. However, in order to pay the types of fees required to attract high-caliber stars, a number of player exits will be required to augment the kitty.
Chelsea would consider bids for Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr, and Ian Maatsen, according to the Standard.
Marc Cucurella and Armando Broja have also been suggested as potential replacements.
However, Chelsea are playing a hazardous game with Pochettino, according to reporter Ben Jacobs, after also posting the for sale sign next to Conor Gallagher.
Chelsea want £50 million for Gallagher, but Pochettino refuses to trade.
The 23-year-old all-action midfielder has started all but one of Chelsea’s league games this season. He only missed one game due to suspension.
Gallagher has even captained the team eight times this season. Pochettino clearly trusts him, as evidenced by the Argentine’s comments about the midfielder.
Pochettino recently stated (as quoted by the Daily Express): “It is a decision between the player and the club, to be or not to be.”
“He starts nearly every game and is one of the captains.” He is the type of player that the club requires, in my opinion.
“He’s significant because of his Chelsea values.” He came from the academy, he adores the club, and he is quite dedicated.
“You can see it on the pitch — he runs, plays and fights.” He goes to great lengths to win. He is a vital player who the coaching staff wishes to have on the team.”
However, according to Jacobs, Chelsea has gone against Pochettino’s wishes and placed Gallagher for transfer.
Prior to the winter transfer window, Jacobs revealed that ‘Gallagher IS for sale,’ and the Blues have set a £50 million valuation on his head.
Chelsea were said to be interested in selling Gallagher last summer. Newcastle, Tottenham, and Everton all expressed interest, but no deal was struck.
Despite his excellent performances this season, Chelsea’s stance appears to be intact – Gallagher is free to leave if a suitable offer is made.
