If Chelsea wants to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in January, they will have to match his release clause.
Chelsea have been linked with a bid for the 25-year-old, but it has been stated that London rivals Arsenal are also interested. Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, on the other hand, insists the Portuguese club has no intention of selling him and will fight for the €100 million (£86m/$109m) release clause in his contract.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the coach stated, “He will only leave if someone pays the buyout clause in January — otherwise, he will stay.”
Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in the summer transfer window and is under contract with the club until 2028. He has an outstanding 17 goals in 19 matches in all competitions for the club, which he added to on Monday when he started the scoring against Porto in the Primeira Liga. The 25-year-old Swedish international spent three years on Brighton’s books before being loaned out to St. Pauli, Swansea, and Coventry before signing for the latter in 2021.
