Marcelino, manager of Villarreal, is scared of meeting Real Madrid’s superstar – “He’s extraordinary”
The Yellow Submarine have been in terrific form since Marcelino Garcia Toral returned to Villarreal in November. Following a dismal start to the season that saw them fire managers Quique Setien and Pacheta, they have looked terrific in recent weeks.
Marcelino, on the other hand, will face his most difficult test by far on Sunday, when Villarreal travel to Madrid to face Real Madrid. In his pre-match press conference, the 58-year-old decided to spotlight on Jude Bellingham, who has been the main man for Carlo Ancelotti’s team this season.
“He’s incredible. He is the player who has given Europe’s best performance. We’ll try not to let him get too involved. It will be challenging because he is involved in the majority of the pitch, particularly in the last third.
“He is well supported by top-tier players such as Rodrygo.” To limit their effect on the game, we’ll need to be strong in collective help.”
Bellingham will undoubtedly play a key role for Real Madrid on Sunday, but Villarreal and Marcelino will be well aware that they will need to shut down all 11 players if they are to maintain their recent form.
