Manchester City only have themselves to blame for blowing a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace, according to Rico Lewis.
After penalty-winner Jean-Phillippe Mateta had dragged the Eagles back into the game on 76 minutes, Michael Olise tucked away a 95th-minute spot kick to rescue a draw for them. During the hosts’ strong performance, Jack Grealish and Lewis had given City a cushion.
City has now surrendered 12 goals in six games and is without a win in three Premier League games at home for the first time since 2016. They remain fourth in the rankings and fear falling further behind in the title battle ahead of the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
“It’s really unfortunate but we’ve got to look at ourselves and look at our individual decisions and then look at us as a group,” Lewis was quoted as saying by Match Of The Day. “We can’t point the finger at anyone else.” “We can only blame ourselves.”
Palace only had 25% control, but Mateta caused issues for the City defence on multiple occasions, gaining the penalty by drawing a foul from Phil Foden. “There are no complaints,” Lewis said of the penalty decision. It’s a penalty because the ref called it. That’s all I have to say. As I already stated, it is entirely up to us. It’s our fault. We have no complaints, just to ourselves.”
City has won only one of their last six Premier League games and four of their last 11 overall. Their next league game is against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday, December 22.
