Chelsea is ready to ‘fire’ three players, including a new acquisition, in a £110 million transfer spree.
Chelsea are set to sell three players in January, just days after Mauricio Pochettino asked the club’s board to “improve” his roster.
Chelsea are preparing to release three first-team players in order to bankroll more January moves.
Following their 2-0 setback at Everton, the Blues plummeted to 12th in the Premier League table, the same place they finished last season. Chelsea have won just five of their 16 Premier League games this season, despite spending over £400 million on new players in the summer.
Mauricio Pochettino called on the Chelsea board to “improve” his squad in the “next transfer market” following the game at Goodison Park. Pochettino is looking for a new centre forward, with Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen both linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge.
However, in order to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) criteria, Chelsea will have to sell players in the January transfer window if they want to add a big-name striker to their team, and three stars are already likely to be sacked.
According to ESPN, Chelsea are ready to sanction the departures of Trevor Chalobah, Ian Maatsen, and Noni Madueke during the winter transfer season.
Chalobah has not featured for Chelsea this season due to a thigh injury and is expected to go, with Crystal Palace among those keen. The 24-year-old has two and a half years left on his current deal and appeared in 33 games across all competitions last season.
Chalobah is a big fan of former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who gave him his start at Stamford Bridge. Sky Sports reported in August that Bayern Munich were in talks to sign the centre-back for £50 million, but the deal fell through in the summer.
Maatsen is another player who might leave the club, with Borussia Dortmund keeping tabs on him ahead of a possible January move. According to ESPN, it’s unclear whether Dortmund wants to sign Maatsen on a permanent basis. The Dutch left-back has made nine Premier League appearances this season and is expected to re-join Burnley in the summer for £31.5 million after a successful loan stay last season.

Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV in January for £28.5 million, but he has struggled for form so far, scoring just twice in 20 appearances. Under Pochettino, the 21-year-old has dropped down the pecking order and has not started a Premier League game since the 2-0 defeat to Brentford in October.
Other players who could be sacrificed include Marc Cucurella and Armando Broja as Chelsea attempts to balance the books after a poor start to the season. Cucurella has filled in at left-back in Ben Chilwell’s absence, and Broja has scored once this season, in a 2-0 win over Fulham.
