Premier League superstar found GUILTY of over 200 betting charges and has now been banned for 10 months
Stefano Pioli, the manager of AC Milan, said he had no knowledge of Sandro Tonali’s gambling problem.
Newcastle signed the Italian international midfielder from Milan for £55 million in the summer. However, it was revealed two months later that he was being investigated for violating betting laws, and his agent admitted he was a gambling addict.
Tonali was suspended for ten months at the end of October, raising concerns about what Milan knew before cashing in on their star youth. On Tuesday night, Pioli asserted that Newcastle had received a “great” offer, adding, “No, I didn’t know anything about Sandro’s problem.”

“Tonali, I’m quite close to him. When he was with us, he was a cheerful young man who was always willing to help. He has gotten caught up in something delicate. We are close to him, and I hope that this experience will be beneficial to him. Will he be able to recover? Yes, in terms of his tactical and athletic abilities.”
In the downpour at St James’ Park on Tuesday, Pioli held a huddle but no training, saying, “We have one goal, and that is to win the game.” We know what to expect and who our foe is. We have to seize this opportunity.”
