Man City’s £45 million player, according to Nedum Onuoha, should leave the club.
Following Pep Guardiola’s recent comments about Kalvin Phillips, Nedum Onuoha has advised that he depart Manchester City in January.

Guardiola apologised to Phillips at a recent news conference ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League match against Luton Town, before admitting that he difficult to envision the 27-year-old on his ideal team.

As a result, one analyst and former Manchester City player has weighed in on the subject, expressing his thoughts on Phillips and his predicament at the Manchester club.

Onuoha addressed the issue in a recent video posted to the ESPN FC YouTube page.

“You can have control; if you want to play him, you can just play him,” he remarked. It’s almost as if there’s a voice in his head telling him he can’t play him. If you don’t like him, that’s fine; however, when we see every other player in that City squad start in midfield ahead of him, I believe the writing is on the wall.

MORE MAN CITY STORIES “If I were Kalvin Phillips and heard someone say, ‘I just don’t see you in the team,’ it would probably sound worse.” Say anything else, it sounds terrible. ‘I just don’t see you on the pitch for the way my team wants to play,’ it’s extremely humbling, but to Kalvin Phillips’ credit, he’s supposedly been a good man, which has made it worse for Guardiola because if he was a nasty guy, he’d just say off you go.

“It’s so strange; I almost look at him as if he’s a very young player now because I see him trying.” I’m seeing him do stuff in warm-ups, seeing him practice, and it’s like this is the worst position to be in when all you’re doing is training and taking a bench spot because no one else is available.

“But still, January is around the corner so hopefully he can get something good and get his career started again.”

City signed the England international from Leeds United in the summer transfer window of 2022 for a fee of £45 million.

Since then, the midfielder has appeared in 29 games for the Citizens, starting only five of them.

This demonstrates how difficult it has been for Phillips to obtain considerable game time on a consistent basis at the club.

Given that the former Leeds player stated that his goal is to play consistently enough to avoid missing out on a spot in England’s Euro 2016 squad, we agree with Onuoha that a move away from City next month could be the best next step for him.
