Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino may have a difficult task convincing Mykhaylo Mudryk to stay at the club after one of his former coaches advised him to consider leaving. The Blues winger has gradually improved this season, earning praise from fans and analysts alike, but there have been suggestions for Mudryk to find another club where he will feel more at ease after failing to find his feet in London.
Since his high-profile ÂŁ88 million signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in January of this year, Mudryk has been plagued by overblown expectations. The 22-year-old has two goals and two assists in 28 appearances for the club.
Both goals have occurred this season under Pochettino, with the Ukraine international finally scoring for Chelsea in a league win over Fulham in October. He then followed it up with a fortunate lob that embarrassed Arsenal’s David Raya.
After placing 12th in owner Todd Boehly’s debut season at the club, the west London club has gone through one of the most difficult times in its history. While Mudryk is not completely to blame for Chelsea’s troubles on the pitch, his lack of goals has led to a streak of only eight wins in 2023.
In contrast, Mudryk’s international form, with four goals in his previous six caps for Ukraine, appears to support a former coach’s accusation that he is not being used properly by his club or manager.
Carlo Nicolini, who joined Shakhtar in 2020 with former coach Roberto De Zerbi, has advised Mudryk to leave Chelsea in order to find the finest club and coach for him to grow under.
