Manchester City has put a Price Tag on Flop Player who disparately want to leave Ethihad in January transfer
Despite Kalvin Phillips’ marginal squad position, Manchester City has apparently placed a £50 million price tag on him ahead of the January transfer window.
The midfielder, who cost £42 million to sign with the champions in 2022, would bring in money for them if they paid that kind of sum. In his fifteen months at the club, the pivot has only made five starts, and he could lose his England spot before Euro 2024.
This month, Pep Guardiola would not rule out Phillips leaving in January. With just over 70 Premier League minutes under his belt through six games this season, Phillips has started just one of those games.
The Mirror claims that despite this, City is hoping to receive a return on their player. According to the report, Newcastle has identified the 27-year-old as a possible January target after Sandro Tonali was suspended for ten months for breaking betting rules.
West Ham, Liverpool, Juventus, and Aston Villa are also considering it. During the summer, Phillips was linked to a move to West Ham, but he informed club officials that he wanted to stay and compete for his position.
Following Rodri’s three-match domestic suspension, he started the League Cup loss to Newcastle last month, but he was benched for the games against Wolves and Arsenal. Since the most recent international break, he has made one fleeting cameo appearance.
In the meantime, it’s believed that City and Newcastle are vying for Exequiel Palacios, a midfielder for Bayer Leverkusen. The team’s unblemished start to the season, which has allowed them to lead the Bundelsliga, is largely due to the 25-year-old.
Argentine Palacios, who has started ten of his twelve games this season, is an important player for Xabi Alonso and is not inexpensive. In September, he signed a contract extension with Leverkusen that will keep him with the German team until 2028.
