Jadon Sancho is aiming to return to Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window.
Sancho has been removed from Manchester United’s team following a fight with Erik ten Hag Dortmund, with clubs in Germany interested in recruiting the player – most likely on loan.
United have lost their previous two home games, putting more pressure on Erik ten Hag.
Following his recent spat with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, Jadon Sancho wants to rejoin Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window, according to 90min.
Sancho joined United from the Bundesliga club in 2021, but his development has stalled at Old Trafford in the two years since his £73 million move. The 23-year-old has made only a few appearances for United this season and was left out of the team for last month’s 3-1 loss against Arsenal.
Following the game, Ten Hag stated that Sancho’s performances in training had resulted in him being left out of the traveling party to London, but the 23-year-old later responded on social media, saying he “would not allow people to say things that are untrue” and that he had been “made a scapegoat for too long.”
Sancho was later barred from first-team training and remains so to this day, with some sources claiming Ten Hag’s connection with the youngster is irreparable. Although almost a month has gone since the initial incident, there are no signs of a change in the scenario on the horizon, an apology from Sancho may lead to his reintegration into the team.
A number of clubs in Germany are keeping an eye on the situation with the goal of signing Sancho in early 2024, though it is understood that former club Dortmund is the only club Sancho is interested in joining at this time. This, too, is subject to change based on other interest over the next three months, but a deal with Dortmund could be reached before January if the situation remains unchanged.
United would look to recoup a portion of the fee they paid to sign Sancho in any permanent sale, but with the player’s profile damaged and the January transfer window falling in the middle of the season, where high-value transfers are more rare, a loan with an option or obligation to buy in summer 2024 is more likely.
For some time, 90min has maintained that Dortmund’s interest in Sancho has remained throughout his first two years at United, with the relationship between club and player still strong after four seasons together.
A change in Ten Hag’s status – who is under increasing pressure following a terrible start to the season – might affect Sancho’s route at Old Trafford, while the club is strongly backing the manager with his disciplinary procedures against Sancho, despite current results and performances. United are tenth in the Premier League and have lost their first two Champions League matches.
