Martin Odegaard refuses to be distracted by Manchester City’s shock defeat to Wolves on Saturday, insisting that Arsenal are only concerned with themselves ahead of next week’s clash.
The Gunners are the only Premier League team yet to be defeated this season, with north London rivals Spurs losing in the Carabao Cup despite being unbeaten in the league.
Arsenal were cruising to a 4-0 win away to Bournemouth, while City were toiling at Molineux.
Pep Guardiola’s team fell behind early on thanks to a Ruben Dias own goal, but Julian Alvarez equalized on the hour mark, only for Hwang Hee-chan to restore the home side’s lead minutes later as Wolves held on for a 2-1 victory.
Despite their defeat, City remain top of the Premier League table, with one point more than both second-placed Tottenham Hotspur and third-placed Arsenal.
However, they will travel to the Emirates next weekend without injured playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and suspended enforcer Rodri, as well as coming off a tremendously dismal outcome.
Arsenal still has a Champions League trip to Lens on Tuesday, but Odegaard is already excited to face City.
Asked when he learned of City’s slip up against Wolves, a beaming Odegaard told football.london: ‘I just heard. But, once again, we must concentrate on ourselves.
‘This league is so tough that you say everyone can beat everyone, and you have to be sharp, ready for every game, and it’s such a busy schedule now,’ says one player.
‘As a result, we must concentrate on ourselves. Make certain that we are prepared for next week.’
‘I think every game is a significant game,’ he added.
‘First and foremost, we have the Champions League to prepare for, and then we’ll see what happens after that, but every game is important to us.’
‘I feel wonderful we have won the game, that’s the only thing we can control, I am just thinking on that bus, how we can prepare Lens,’ said manager Mikel Arteta when asked about the upcoming match against City.
‘It’s going to be a really tough away from home encounter on Tuesday to attempt to win it, and City will be the next step, but it’s taking a lot of good things and moving them for Tuesday and trying to make the correct decision with the line-up and squad to sustain the level we’re displaying.’
