Alan Shearer criticized the “exceptional” £150,000-a-week Man City player who played against Wolves because he lost the ball so many times.
After his team lost 2-1 to Wolves on Saturday, Alan Shearer had some harsh words for Mateo Kovacic, who plays in the middle.
The well-known expert talked about the £150,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man’s performance on BBC Match of the Day.
After Manchester City’s first loss of the season against Wolves, Alan Shearer ripped into Mateo Kovacic for his terrible performance.
Alan Shearer criticizes Mateo Kovacic after Manchester City lost to Wolves. Pep Guardiola called the 29-year-old a “exceptional player,” and he was allowed to play in place of Rodri at the Molineux Stadium.
But it’s fair to say that after a good start to his time in sky blue, Kovacic’s worst game for his club came when he played as a defensive midfielder instead of his usual position.
Alan Shearer thinks so, too, because he said Mateo Kovacic was Manchester City’s biggest failure against Wolves.
“Today, Kovacic was moved because Rodri wasn’t there because he was suspended. He was the player who was sitting, and he lost the ball so many times. When you play against Manchester City, you have to be almost perfect. Yes, they have some luck, but that’s what’s been going on all day.”
Mateo Kovacic was just terrible.
Alan Shearer is right, because it’s hard to deny that the expert for Manchester City had a terrible day against Wolves.
When he had the ball, the four-time Champions League winner passed the ball way too high, especially since he kept trying to find Erling Haaland behind the home team’s defense but failed.
On defense, Kovacic’s and many of his teammates’ sloppy passing led to mistakes, and he doesn’t have the speed to cover as much ground as Rodri does to stop breakaways.
The former Chelsea player was terrible in every way.
But to be fair, it would be unfair to criticize Kovacic too much because he was playing out of place against Wolves.
