Jurgen Klopp has a message for referees and talks about the game
Liverpool found themselves down to nine men and unable to withstand Tottenham’s late onslaught, ultimately succumbing to a 2-1 defeat due to Joel Matip’s heartbreaking 96th-minute own goal.
The wave of elation that has swept over Tottenham this season is almost palpable. However, in the world of football, where one team is riding high, another often faces frustration – and in this case, it was Liverpool, particularly Matip.
Throughout the second half, Matip and Van Dijk had defended impeccably. Yet, mental fatigue is an intangible factor, and Tottenham’s relentless pressure eventually paid off. After the match, Klopp had something to say about the game and referees.
Klopp asked to comment on the game: “For you it is funny. For me it is just expensive. I have never seen a more unfair game.
“Every single one of our team are man mountains!”
Klopp on Diaz’s disallowed goal: “Someone opened their smartphone (at half time), we saw it on Instagram or Twitter or whatever. It’s not offside. Never. They drew their lines wrong.”
“Today is a proper knock. We would have celebrated the point like I don’t know. Now we have no point.”
Klopp: “I told the boys. Football is a result game but if you can’t get a performance what can you get.”
Klopp: "I never saw a more unfair game."
