‘I gave him the chance to leave in the summer but he decided to Stay, he will be on the Bench till January Window and his contract will not be Renewed
Pep Guardiola said that Kalvin Phillips could have been sold by Manchester City this summer if he hadn’t made the choice he did.
Before his team’s game against Newcastle United, he talked to the press (BeanymanSports) about the £42 million player (The Athletic).
Pep Guardiola said that Kalvin Phillips will play on Wednesday night, but he also said that he could have left Manchester City.
Kalvin Phillips could have left Manchester City this summer, according to Pep Guardiola.
The Catalan manager called the 27-year-old player “smart,” but since he joined the English giants last summer, things haven’t gone well for him.
Even though he won the triple in his first season, the English player was on the outside of things and only started two Premier League games.
Pep Guardiola has now said that there was a chance Kalvin Phillips could have left Manchester City.
“He chose to stay. The club talked to him, and even though he might not have played much, he wanted to stay,” he said.
“He’s about to become a dad, so he wanted to stay here. It’s fine, it’s fine. He’s a great guy.”
When they play Newcastle, Kalvin Phillips needs to do well.
Now that Pep Guardiola is going to start the lively midfielder against Newcastle, this is his chance to save his career at Manchester City.
When Rodri comes back from suspension, people expect him to do what he does best: walk into the side.
Phillips has a chance to show that he should be a normal first-team player in the meantime.
And if he looks the part, the former Leeds star could get a lot of attention at St. James’s Park when he plays against Newcastle.
If not, Guardiola probably won’t play Phillips against Wolves or against Arsenal, and it’s unlikely that he’ll play much at all until the end of the season.
