Mauricio Pochettino advises Nicolas Jackson to ‘grow up’ as Chelsea suffers another defeat.

Pochettino took over as Chelsea’s head coach last summer, tasked with turning the club’s fortunes around after a disastrous 12th-place finish in the Premier League previous season.

Chelsea’s misery appears to be far from over, with the west Londoners having won only one of their first six Premier League games this season.

The Blues hosted Villa at Stamford Bridge this Saturday, but once again failed to deliver, losing 1-0, with Malo Gusto sent out before Ollie Watkins’ winner.

Pochettino was grilled after the game over summer signing Jackson, who failed to score yet again and received his fifth yellow card of the season, meaning he is now suspended for Chelsea’s next game.

Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal in a £30 million move, and significant emphasis has been placed on the 22-year-old striker’s shoulders given Chelsea’s goal-scoring woes, with the Senegal international scoring just once thus far.

‘We were talking, we need to grow up as a team,’ Pochettino stated after the defeat to Villa.

‘Nico is a young player who is enjoying his time in the Premier League. Football is about winning, but players must learn while they are young.

‘That is why we are dissatisfied. We have far too many instances like this.’

Despite his red card, Pochettino refused to blame Gusto for Chelsea’s downfall.

When asked if Gusto’s challenge was necessary, Pochettino answered, “It is our responsibility.”

‘I’m not going to point fingers or say anything negative about Malo Gusto because things happen in football that have an impact on the game.’

Chelsea return to Carabao Cup action on Wednesday when they host Brighton.
