Chelsea Legend John Terry has announced he is buying surprising Premier League club

When people of a certain age think of Chelsea Football Club, they often think of John Terry, who used to be the team leader. Terry would like to buy a 10% stake in the team.

A big banner that says “Captain, leader, legend” still flies over Stamford Bridge on game days, showing how well he is still thought of.

The news that the club regular wants to buy a 10% share in the west London team may raise some doubts, but the Stamford Bridge fans as a whole will almost certainly be happy about it.

But there is still a very long way to go before a deal is likely to be made.

The Telegraph (subscription required) says that Terry is part of a group that would need to raise money from fans through the online technology site PrimaryBid in order to get Todd Boehly’s attention.

Anand Sambasivan is a Chelsea season ticket holder and co-founder and CEO of PrimaryBid.

Any agreement that needs the help of allies to get through must raise some questions.

There are already too many gray areas in the way Chelsea is owned, and the Premier League and other officials can’t afford to look into it any more.
