Man City’stopped’ contract discussions with a key player in a ‘risky’ move after the 32-year-old’rejected’ Saudi proposals.
According to rumors, Manchester City has decided to take a ‘risk’ in contract negotiations with Saudi Arabia-linked Kevin De Bruyne.
This month, it was reported that De Bruyne was among numerous high-profile players, including Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, who turned down a move to the Middle East during the summer transfer window.
According to The Sun, the Belgian midfielder wants to finish his career with Manchester City and will reject any offers in January and next summer.
He has been one of the Premier League’s greatest performers since joining from Wolfsburg for about £60 million in 2015.
After his disastrous tenure at Chelsea, the transfer raised a few questions, but any misgivings were swiftly dispelled, and De Bruyne now has five Premier League winners’ medals in his excellent collection.
City are reportedly interested in extending the 32-year-old’s contract until 2025.
However, De Bruyne’s injury issues appear to be slowing down the negotiations.
He suffered a major hamstring injury on the first weekend of the Premier League season and will be sidelined for some time.
The Cityzens have also’stopped the renewal’ of De Bruyne’s contract, according to the Daily Star (via Fichajes).
City will ‘slow down’ talks over a new agreement due to his long-term injury and will not reopen negotiations until the midfielder has ‘completely healed’.
According to the source, this is a “risky move” considering the interest from Saudi Arabia, and De Bruyne has been “tested recently by several clubs.”
De Bruyne is set to return and play a key role in City’s effort to win the Premier League for the fourth consecutive season.
Kyle Walker revealed De Bruyne is one of five City captains following the departure of Ilkay Gundogan in the summer, speaking ahead of his team’s Champions League opener against Red Star Belgrade.
“The captains’ vote has come in, and the five captains that have been chosen will lead the team for the season and ensure all checks and fines are paid up,” Walker added.
“I don’t think the order is important, but it’s just me, Kevin, Rodri, Ruben (Dias), and Bernardo Silva.”
“(So far) I’ve been very honored, and it’s a privilege to lead this special group of players out.”
“I will continue to do that, and hopefully lead by example both on and off the field, to ensure we are collecting trophies at the end of the season.”
