Man United confirms double transfer signing as superstar joined on five-years transfer deal.

Manchester United are said to be in talks with Aston Villa regarding a potential move for goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, according to reports from Spain. After Andre Onana’s arrival from Inter Milan for a significant fee, expectations were high. However, his first season at Old Trafford was filled with mistakes, and the team’s defensive struggles didn’t help matters.

Despite hopes that Onana would bounce back in his second year, his form remained inconsistent, and many fans have grown frustrated with his performances. Now, it seems United are considering replacing him, with Martínez emerging as a serious candidate.

Negotiations have reportedly begun with Aston Villa, who are open to letting the Argentine shot-stopper go for around £40 million. Martínez is also believed to be interested in a move to Old Trafford. Financial concerns could be pushing Villa towards the sale, especially with fears they may breach Profit and Sustainability Regulations after missing out on Champions League qualification. Alongside Martínez, players like Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins have also been linked with moves away.

Martínez has proven himself on the international stage, playing a vital role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph in 2022 and two Copa America titles. He’s known for his penalty-saving abilities and commanding presence in goal. However, while his performances for Argentina have been top-notch, he’s had less consistency at club level with Villa. At 32, and with a hefty transfer fee on the table, questions are being raised about whether he’s the right long-term option for United.

Bringing in a new goalkeeper seems to be a priority at Old Trafford, but some believe a younger, more reliable option would serve them better. Still, it remains to be seen whether Martínez becomes the man to reinforce United’s backline under Ruben Amorim’s management this summer.
